My annual repost in anticipation of the Holiday Season!

Try Not to Think About It!

Now that Halloween is over
and the candy's in a heap,
the monsters and the goblins
have all gone back to sleep.

But a different kind of terror
is hiding out of sight.
To catch you when your guard is down,
then chortle with delight!

His loud and phony laughter
seems to echo off the walls.
You'll even spot him lurking
inside the shopping malls!

He's out to get your hard-earned cash,
but he'll accept a line of credit.
It really doesn't matter,
just as long as he can get it.

He targets little children
as accomplices of choice.
Using high-tech toys and candy
and his most deceptive voice.

They become his willing cohorts -
parents don't suspect a thing -
as the kiddies run from store to store
as their happy voices sing.

You'll fill your days with other tasks,
mundane but necessary;
ignoring every sign of him,
all red and white and hairy.

But then you'll finally realize
that time is running out,
and find yourself resorting
to the childish urge to pout.

You can't get in the spirit -
you're cranky all day long.
And you've absolutely HAD it
with the pushing, shoving throng.

There is no place that you can hide;
you'll keep running without pause.
But by now you know it's useless,
cause here comes...Santa Claus!
