Fleeting Moments

I heard you sing,
And the notes fell
Like silk
Upon my Spirit.

I saw you smile
And in that moment
Thought that
You were happy.

But when I looked
Into your eyes,
I knew your heart
Was breaking.

The unshed tears
Held back until the
Darkness sets them
Free.

I wanted to extend
My hand and tell you that
Your secret is safe
With me.

But mine is just a small voice
Drowned by the cacophony
That no doubt rages
In your mind.

You nodded oh so slightly
As if to say you heard me.
Then you smiled and
Turned away.

Leaving the Sisterhood of Sadness
To keep yet another secret
Buried deep within its
Collective soul.
