The Last Leaf

The last leaf held tightly to the branch
As the cold Autumn wind chased the Summer air,
Trying its best to dislodge the survivor from its perch.

But it remains at the top of the tree,
Daring Mother Nature to unseat it.
Clinging with all its might.

It knows that it’s dying.
And most all others have already dropped
To their grave.

Yet proudly it flutters,
Not yet ready to fail.
Not yet ready to admit defeat.

I know some people like that.
Warriors.
I admire their Courage.

When, knowing the ultimate outcome,
They continue their battles
With bravery.

Some battles are physical in nature.
Others are wars of the Heart.
All can destroy one’s Spirit.

It would be so easy to give up.

Don’t.
