I was asked to write something for someone who'd just lost his wife. She had lived in a care facility for many years.

For Edna
the Love of My Life

It’s a love that never faded,
even though we are apart.
Our hearts were joined together
right from the very start.

We shared a life of promises,
of challenges and pain.
And if anyone should ask me
Yes, I’d do it all again.

It broke my heart to watch you go,
and I know it broke yours too.
But for you to have a chance at life
it was the BEST thing I could do.

It wasn’t done with malice;
I couldn’t hurt you if I tried.
And if anyone says differently
I promise you they’ve lied.

No one will ever understand
the things you did for me
to help me be a better man;
there’s no way that they can see.

You gave me only happiness,
a world so full of love and life.
And from my heart I thank you
for being you, my love, my wife.

And now it seems the time has come
For you to ride the pure white Dove,
But as you go remember,
You’ll always be my one true love.
