(Sorry!!! I don't know where this came from, but I've been unable to write anything else. Believe me, I've been trying. It was started months ago, after seeing flag-draped caskets coming home from war. So, I finally realized that nothing else was going to be written until I finished THIS piece. Someone wants it to be said. Don't read it if you're not in the mood for somber words. It's a bit of a downer. Sorry. But I had to finish it. NOW, maybe I can move on to brighter, happier thoughts!)
Coming Home
Please don't cover my face with the blanket.
Don't speak as if I can't hear.
I want to see the faces
Of those that I hold so dear.
Don't cover my face with the blanket.
Don't act as if I'm not here.
Help me rise so that I may hold you
And wipe away all your tears.
Don't cover my face with the blanket
I want to see you smile again.
And remember happier moments
My family, my children, my friends.
Oh, please cover my face with the blanket.
I can't bear to see you in pain.
And drown out the sobbing and heartache
As you stand in the cold pouring rain.
Don't put me into the frozen ground
And cover my casket with dirt.
There are things I still haven't told you!
That may help to ease the hurt.
I want you to know that I'm happy
To give my life for what I believe.
For honor, and peace, and democracy
So please, I don't want you to grieve.
Remember how much I love you,
And the Country I once proudly served.
Whether the cause was just or right,
Rest and respect are now what we deserve.
I loved it. it really inspired me.
