The girl with the dark corkscrew hair
Sat alone on a bench by the Ocean.
The foamy waves slapped at her feet
To the beat of perpetual motion.
Her tears ebbed and flowed
Getting lost in the sand,
As she twisted and turned
The thin golden band.
Flowers and promises,
Toasts and well wishes.
Lies and deception,
Passionate kisses.
Years of unhappiness,
Weeks of delight.
Days masquerading,
Sadness at night.
A life spent regretting
Deeds long in the past,
That drag like an anchor,
A dark shadow cast.
I am not broken!
She cried at the sky.
My heart is still beating!
My wings can still fly!
Then the girl with the dark corkscrew hair
Rose from the bench by the Ocean
And dropped the thin band from her hand
With no visible trace of emotion.
She gathered her thoughts
And remains of her pride,
Leaving her grief
For the outgoing tide.
For those who have suffered heartbreak. You are not alone, and you WILL survive!
I promise to write something cheery next time!
